Intersectionality holds that the classical conceptualizations of oppression within society do not act independently of each other. Instead, these forms of oppression interrelate, creating a system of oppression that reflects the "intersection" of multiple forms of discrimination. Oppression such as sexism, classism, racism, colorism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia and belief-based bigotry.
Join the Thursday Network as Dr. Waller and other experts examine both power and oppression, how we identify our power and oppression and use it to rewrite societal perception. Join us to discuss intersectionality and how can we better support and empower each other and other marginalized groups within this system.
The Young Women of Achievement (YWA) Awards are the WIN’s annual celebration of highly talented up-and-coming young women leaders making a difference in our community.
Waller & Company is sponsoring the organization by raffling 2 free personal branding sessions.
DC Seven Sisters Clubs (Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Vassar, and Wellesley), have partnered with a local organization, Support the Girls, to host A Galentine’s Drive, a charity drive taking place Wednesday, February 15 (5 - 8 PM), at District Distilling Co.
They will be collecting donations of bras and feminine hygiene products for homeless women and girls in our community. Many homeless women and girls are often victims of domestic violence, fleeing horrific situations with little more than the clothes on their backs. They certainly don’t have time to pack extra bras and hygiene products, yet these items aren't always available at shelters as they are rarely donated (despite the high demand). Items collected from their drive will be donated to New Endeavors by Women.
Waller & Company is one of the several local and notable businesses supporting their event. For those attendees who provide a contribution to the drive (material or monetary), they will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a free personal branding assessment.
